14 July 2014 Filed Under: Why Hôtel Astor?

Are you looking at luxury hotels in Paris for your French getaway? Though it may be tempting to fully enjoy your hotel’s amenities while you’re here, don’t forget to explore the city and its outskirts. In fact, there are actually quite a few remarkable spots outside the city limits. From historical sites and castles to beautiful gardens and architecture, France has a lot to offer – and most of it can be seen in just one day!

Want to make the most of your Paris trip? Then work in these fun day trips during your stay:

  • Fontainebleau – Just 35 miles southwest of Paris, Fontainebleau is a beautiful and quaint city. Most notably, you’ll find the Chateau de Fontainebleu, a historic palace where French royals vacationed in the 16th century. If you really want to go all out, bring a picnic, and eat lunch in the Château’s gardens.
  • Reims – Take a quick train ride over to Reims, the champagne capital of the world. The city itself sits on miles and miles of tunnels, which are used as champagne caves for big-name companies like Pommery, Veuve Clicquot and Taittinger. You can even tour the tunnels and taste samples! The city is also home to a historic Gothic cathedral where French kings were once crowned.
  • Auvers-sur-oise – Once the home of Vincent Van Gogh, this building in the northwest suburbs of Paris is an art-lover’s dream. Not only did Van Gogh himself create more than 70 works in the building, other renowned artists such as Cezanne, Renoir and Manet all spent time in the home. You can even see Van Gogh’s apartment, his resting place and other notable sites.

If you’re staying in luxury hotels in Paris, be sure to venture outside the city while you’re here. With beautiful sights and historic buildings you can’t find anywhere else, you’ll be glad you did. Don’t have accommodations for your upcoming trip just yet? Then consider Hotel Astor Saint Honoré, one of the premier luxury hotels in Paris.
