About the Galeries Lafayette
The original store was built in 1895, and at the time, it was simply a small clothing store on Rue la Fayette. Ten years later, the company expanded, moving to the nearby Boulevard Haussmann. The Galeries Lafayette is still housed there today, and now includes three buildings. The buildings are divided into women and children’s fashions in the Lafayette Coupole, menswear in Lafayette Homme and home goods in Lafayette Maison.
The Coupole boasts a beautiful Art Nouveau steel and glass dome that can be seen from across the city. Inside, you’ll find women’s designer collections, children’s clothing, jewelry, accessories, music, electronics, cosmetics and more. The Coupole also features 11 restaurants, cafes, bakeries and even an ice cream parlor. In addition, The Coupole hosts a weekly fashion show at 3 p.m. every Friday.
Lafayette Homme, which connects to the Coupole via passageways on the second and third floors, offers the latest in men’s apparel and accessories. The building also hosts a high end grocery called Lafayette Gourmet. Next door to Lafayette Homme is Lafayette Maison, the Galeries’ home goods store, which specializes in fine linens, furnishings and kitchen supplies. Altogether, the Galeries Lafayette and its three buildings offer up more than 750,000 square feet of shopping and dining.
